Lukman Warns of Voter Apathy in 2027 Elections

In a statement released on Thursday in Abuja, former Director General of the Progressive Governors Forum, Lukman, expressed concerns that the upcoming 2027 general elections may experience significant voter apathy, potentially resulting in fewer than 10 million votes in the presidential election. He criticized opposition leaders, including Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and Rotimi Amaechi, for failing to unite their presidential ambitions, which he believes contributed to the APC's previous electoral victories.

Lukman stated that the current lack of internal debates and consultations within the opposition is alarming, leading to public cynicism regarding their ability to offer genuine democratic reform. He warned that without a disciplined and united party structure, an opposition victory could merely replace one set of unaccountable politicians with another, reiterating that the 2027 elections present Nigerians with a choice between "the devil and the deep blue sea.".
