Opposition Must Unite to Challenge Tinubu in 2027

Salihu Lukman, a former chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stated that the historical pattern of elections in Nigeria and other regions indicates that a divided opposition strengthens the incumbent. He called for opposition parties to unite behind a single presidential candidate to effectively challenge incumbent President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming presidential election scheduled for January 16, 2027.

Lukman emphasized that cooperation among opposition parties is essential to consolidate votes and resources, thereby increasing their chances of unseating Tinubu. He articulated that fragmentation of efforts among parties competing for the same voter base could inadvertently benefit the incumbent, making unity a strategic necessity for the opposition.

Lukman concluded that "Division is a choice. Cooperation must now become a strategy.".
