Oshiomhole Dismisses Obi's Threat Ahead of 2027 Elections

Adams Oshiomhole, the Senator representing Edo North and former Governor of Edo State, dismissed the notion that Peter Obi of the Labour Party poses a significant political threat to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections. During an appearance on TVC News’ Beyond The Headlines, Oshiomhole argued that Obi's performance in the 2023 presidential election was primarily driven by public anger towards the economic policies of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari's administration.

He stated that Obi's rise was a result of an "unusual situation" where the ruling party's self-destruction made candidates on its platform nearly unelectable. Oshiomhole attributed widespread voter dissatisfaction to the cash crunch from the naira redesign policy and fuel scarcity, which left many Nigerians unable to access their funds.

He recounted a conversation with a constituent expressing frustration over the inability to withdraw money from banks and the high charges at Point of Sale operators, emphasizing that such anger influenced the election outcome.
