Oshiomhole Dismisses Obi as APC's Main Threat for 2027

Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North and a former governor of Edo State, dismissed claims that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, poses the biggest political threat to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election. During an appearance on Beyond The Headlines, Oshiomhole argued that Obi's notable performance in the last presidential election was largely a result of exceptional political circumstances, particularly public anger over economic hardships during the final months of former President Muhammadu Buhari's administration.

He stated that the confusion within the ruling party contributed significantly to Obi's votes. Oshiomhole emphasized that the political climate preceding the 2023 election was unique and should not be viewed as a permanent change in Nigeria's electoral landscape.

He attributed public frustration to the controversial naira redesign policy and severe fuel scarcity, which led many Nigerians to struggle to access their funds, further influencing their voting behavior.
