PDP Adopts Consensus for Kwara Governorship Candidate 2027

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has decided to adopt a consensus arrangement for selecting its governorship candidate for the 2027 elections. This decision was made after a high-level meeting held at the residence of former Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki in Abuja.

The meeting included key party leaders and five leading aspirants: former Speaker of the Kwara Assembly Ali Ahmad, Omar Bolaji Gambari, Alhaji Ladi Hassan, Olaseni Ibiwoy, and Dan Iyan Il Rin. They unanimously agreed to forgo primary contests, allowing party leaders to select the flag bearer.

This resolution was disclosed in a statement by the state chairman, Adamu Isa Bawa, following extensive deliberations involving gubernatorial and national assembly aspirants. Saraki commended the aspirants for their agreement and warned that the consensus arrangement is historically fragile, urging caution to avoid backtracking if the outcome does not favor certain individuals.
