PDP Candidates Must Sign Anti-Defection Undertaking

Taminu Turaki, the chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) interim national working committee, issued a warning on Wednesday regarding the party's candidates for the 2027 general elections. He stated that all candidates must sign an undertaking committing to the party to prevent defections.

This requirement is part of the party's strategy to maintain legal integrity and minimize risks associated with candidate selection. Turaki emphasized that the party has completed the nomination process nationwide, presenting certificates for 21 governorship candidates.

He reiterated that no candidate would be allowed to defect, and all names submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will be required to sign the undertaking. This initiative aims to ensure that the party's mandate is respected and that candidates undergo background checks and security screenings.
