Baba-Ahmed: 2027 Opposition Candidates Can't Fix Nigeria

Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, who served as the Labour Party's vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 election alongside Peter Obi, expressed skepticism about the capabilities of major opposition candidates for the 2027 presidential election to effect change in Nigeria. Speaking on the MicOn Podcast, Baba-Ahmed criticized candidates like Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress and Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress, asserting that they have been part of the political establishment responsible for Nigeria's current challenges.

He advised President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress to prepare to leave office at the end of his tenure but cautioned against transferring power to the current opposition contenders. Baba-Ahmed emphasized his unique political history, claiming he has never been part of a ruling party, unlike many of his contemporaries.

He also commented on the controversy surrounding Tinubu's records in the United States, questioning Atiku's focus on this issue while accusing Tinubu of weakening Nigeria’s political parties during his administration.
