Datti Baba-Ahmed Rejects Obi, Atiku for 2027 Election

On September 7, 2023, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party alongside Peter Obi in the 2023 presidential election, expressed his belief that neither Obi nor Atiku Abubakar can serve as viable alternatives to President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 presidential election. During an appearance on the MicOn Podcast hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, Baba-Ahmed criticized the major opposition candidates for their previous affiliations with the political establishment they now oppose.

He advised Tinubu to prepare to leave office but not to hand over power to any of the current challengers, stating, “none of them will improve Nigeria.” When asked if his comments included Obi, Baba-Ahmed confirmed that they did, citing Obi's past membership in the People's Democratic Party (PDP) as disqualifying. Baba-Ahmed claimed he has never belonged to a ruling party, having left the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) before its merger that formed the All Progressives Congress (APC).
