Alia Denies Sponsoring Thugs Against Peter Obi in Benue

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has refuted claims that he sponsored thugs to prevent Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), from entering Makurdi, the state capital. Obi alleged in a viral video that political thugs, allegedly led by a special assistant to Governor Alia, obstructed his visit to parts of the state.

In response, Alia's Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, issued a statement asserting that Peter Obi does not pose any threat to Alia's re-election campaign in 2027. Kula emphasized that if Obi were indeed a threat, security agencies would address the situation rather than resorting to thuggery.

He described the allegations as unfounded and a desperate attempt to involve Governor Alia and the people of Benue in what he termed an internal political matter within the NDC. Kula firmly denied any knowledge of the incidents described by Obi.
