Benue Government Denies Thug Allegations Against Obi

The Benue State Government has rejected claims made by Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, that he was obstructed by thugs allegedly working for the state government while attempting to access Yelwata. On Tuesday, Obi reported that his convoy was blocked along Gboko Road by youths chanting against him, which he attributed to an aide of Governor Hyacinth Alia.

Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Alia, issued a statement denying any involvement of the government in the incident and questioned the validity of Obi's visit to the state. Kula stated that the government does not engage thugs for governance and that security agencies would handle any threats.

He also criticized Obi for not informing relevant security authorities about his visit. Following the disruption in Benue, Obi proceeded to Plateau State after his unsuccessful attempt to visit families of victims of a massacre in Yelwata.
