Police Warns Against Ballot Snatching Ahead of 2027 Elections

On Wednesday, AIG Jimoh of the Nigeria Police Force delivered a sensitization lecture at the command headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, warning against ballot snatching and electoral violence as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections. He described ballot snatching as a serious criminal offense that undermines the electoral process, urging Nigerians to reject electoral violence.

Jimoh stated that any perpetrator of such acts would face the full weight of the law, as ballot snatching is a destructive form of electoral malpractice that disenfranchises voters and incites violence. He highlighted the importance of public cooperation in maintaining law and order, noting that the police cannot achieve safety alone.

The police are committed to strengthening community partnerships and will deploy personnel around polling units to maintain order. Jimoh commended the peaceful conduct during previous elections in Lagos and Ogun, urging citizens to report any suspicious activities and encouraging political actors to engage in peaceful campaigns.
