INEC Calls for Enhanced Security Ahead of 2027 Elections

On a visit to Cross River State, Prof. George O. Yomer, a representative of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), called for the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen and sustain security arrangements in preparation for the upcoming 2027 general elections.

This appeal was made during a familiarization tour, where he emphasized the necessity for security agencies to collaborate effectively to ensure a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process, which is vital for public confidence in democracy. Rashid Afegbua, accompanying Yomer, noted the ongoing voter registration exercise and the preparations for the third phase of this exercise across the state.

In response, the police command, represented by Pro Eitokpah Sundai, reaffirmed their commitment to collaborating with INEC and relevant stakeholders to provide a secure environment for residents to participate freely in electoral activities without fear of intimidation or harassment.
