ADC to Bar Candidates Over 55 for 2027 Elections

Nafiu, the faction leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), announced that the party will bar individuals above 55 years from contesting for electoral positions under its platform in the 2027 general elections. This policy is designed to open political space for younger Nigerians and encourage generational leadership.

Nafiu criticized the influx of elderly figures in the party, arguing that leadership opportunities should be handed to younger members. He emphasized that the ADC's youth-focused approach remains a top priority.

The party is currently grappling with an internal leadership tussle, with rival factions claiming control amid a crisis deepened by the stance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which has yet to formally recognize the opposing group. Nafiu rejected allegations of backing the Progress Congress (APC) and described such claims as baseless.

He urged new entrants to familiarize themselves with the party's guidelines and respect the established constitutional processes to resolve ongoing disputes.
