On Saturday, a group of youths from the Ekiti State chapter of the APC staged a protest in Ado Local Government Area against plans for a consensus candidate for the House of Representatives seat in the Ado/Irepodun/Ifelodun federal constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections. The protest, organized by the Ado Concern Youth, involved participants from 13 wards carrying placards that rejected the consensus arrangement and called for direct primaries to determine the party's candidates. They appealed to Governor Biodun Oyebanji and APC state chairman Sola Elesin to allow aspirants to contest freely, emphasizing the need for democracy and better representation. Tajudeen Adeley, the group's convenor, criticized the performance of the current representative over the past eight years, describing it as unsatisfactory. The protest highlighted growing tensions within the APC in Ekiti State, with former Governor Kayode Fayemi cautioning against imposing candidates and urging adherence to the Electoral Act for proper primaries.
