Ekiti Youths Demand Fair Representation in Senate Elections

The Ekiti North Progress Youth Alliance, led by coordinator Tayelolu Ajayi, has expressed strong opposition to the imposition of a senatorial candidate for the Ekiti North Senatorial District in the upcoming 2027 general elections. The group argues that Ikole Local Government Area should be allowed to produce the next senator, citing a history of inequity and injustice in the political representation of the area.

Ajayi criticized the alleged plans by politicians to recycle candidates who currently occupy seats in the National Assembly, despite their poor performance. He emphasized that the youth alliance will resist any consensus arrangements that do not consider the interests of Ikole.

The district, which comprises five local government areas, has not produced a senator since Nigeria's return to democracy, leading to calls for fair representation and the inclusion of capable professionals from Ikole in the political landscape. The group urges stakeholders to embrace equitable practices in the electoral process.
