Ekiti Youths Demand Fair APC Primaries for 2027 Elections

A coalition of youth groups in Ekiti State has called for transparent primaries within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the state prepares for the 2027 elections. The coalition, led by David Adegboyega and Tayelolu Ajayi, emphasizes the need for internal democracy to ensure free and fair elections for the House of Representatives seats, particularly for Ekiti Central and the Senate in Ekiti North.

They advocate for direct primaries to maintain inclusivity and a clear separation from traditional political institutions. The coalition has expressed concerns over attempts by certain political actors to pressure traditional rulers into endorsing candidates, which they believe undermines democratic values and threatens political stability.

They urge Governor Biodun Oyebanji and APC leaders to uphold democratic principles and resist any backroom arrangements that could lead to the imposition of candidates. The group also highlights the importance of fair representation for the youth and communities that have not held political positions since 1999.
