Kwankwaso Backs NDC Zoning for 2027 Presidential Race

Rabiu Kwankwaso, a prominent political figure, voiced his support for the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) zoning formula during a party convention in Abuja. He underscored the importance of establishing a power-sharing arrangement to foster unity and solidarity among party members.

Kwankwaso traced historical alliances between northern and southern political entities, citing past coalitions that successfully united Nigeria against challenges. He urged Nigerian political parties to support the NDC's mobilization efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections, advocating for the presidential ticket to be zoned to southern Nigeria.

This decision, he argued, would allow for a complete rotation of leadership and provide an opportunity for national healing. The convention also saw motions passed to zone the presidential ticket to the south for a single four-year term, with support from members like Afam Victor Ogen and Seyi Sowunmi.

Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, was mentioned as a potential candidate from the southern region.
