Kwankwaso Backs NDC's Zoning of 2027 Presidential Ticket

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State, declared his support for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria. Speaking in Abuja during the party's national convention, he emphasized that this decision reflects a commitment to fair representation and balanced leadership within the party.

The zoning formula, which was ratified by delegates, grants the South the right to produce the party's presidential candidate for a single four-year term in 2027. Kwankwaso noted that this decision aligns with the party's internal agreements and Nigeria's longstanding political tradition of accommodating various regions.

He highlighted the need for capable leadership to address the country's severe economic and security challenges. Additionally, the decision is expected to strengthen the chances of former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, who recently joined the NDC from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), reshaping the opposition landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
