PDP Factions Announce Parallel Candidates for 2027 Elections

On Wednesday, two rival factions of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria announced parallel candidates for the 2027 general elections. The faction led by Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, and the faction led by Tanimu Turaki, the interim national working committee head, each held separate events in Abuja to unveil their candidates.

This development occurred just 24 hours before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was scheduled to release access codes for political parties to upload their candidates' names. Wike urged party members to mobilize and reclaim power rather than lamenting past losses.

The Turaki faction confirmed the successful production of candidates for various positions, including 28 governorship candidates, 109 senatorial candidates, and 360 House of Representatives candidates. They emphasized rigorous screening processes to ensure credible representation.

The factions' actions underscore the ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP as they prepare for the upcoming elections.
