Saraki Backs Southern Zoning, Rules Out 2027 Bid

Bukola Saraki, the former Senate President and Governor of Kwara State, announced during an interview on Thursday that he will not be contesting for the presidency in the 2027 elections. He emphasized the importance of fairness in allowing the South to complete an eight-year presidential tenure.

Saraki expressed his support for the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to zone the presidency to the South in 2027. He recalled that during a party meeting last year, the decision was made to support this zoning arrangement.

Saraki highlighted that the final decision regarding the party's candidate for the 2023 elections was made in alignment with this zoning principle, reinforcing his stance that the presidency should be contested in 2027 under this rule.
