Abba Moro Critiques ADC's Demand for INEC Chair Resignation

Abba Moro, the Senate minority leader, criticized the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for its demand for the resignation of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman, Joash Amupitan. In an interview, Moro warned that such calls could heighten political tensions in Nigeria, which have historical precedents of leading to unrest.

He stated that the insistence on Amupitan's resignation is misinterpreted and that the INEC chairman is not biased or incapable of conducting elections. Moro noted that the ADC's protests are part of a broader political strategy, as the party has raised alarms about perceived plots against it ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Recently, the ADC's national chairman, David Mark, demanded the immediate removal of the INEC chairman, alleging unlawful actions. This controversy intensified when INEC announced the delisting of the ADC, including key figures like Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, citing compliance with a court order.
