South South ADC Leaders Deny Endorsing Amaechi's Bid

The South South zonal leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has refuted claims of endorsing Rotimi Amaechi's presidential bid. In a statement issued on Saturday by Mabel Oboh, the zonal spokesperson, the leadership described the reports as misleading and undemocratic.

Oboh clarified that during a meeting on February 27 at Chief John Odigi Oyegun's residence in Benin, the focus was on strengthening the party's internal cohesion and grassroots mobilization, not on endorsing any candidate. She emphasized that no resolution was passed to support Amaechi, who had announced his intention to run for the presidency.

Oboh criticized the media for publishing unverified reports that could misinform the public and undermine democratic processes. She reaffirmed the ADC's commitment to internal democracy, stating that the power to nominate candidates rests with the party's constitution and its members, not solely with the zonal leadership.
