Ogun Monarch Urges Respect Among Politicians for 2027

Oba Akintund Akinyemi of Iselu Kingdom in Yewa North Local Government Area, Ogun State, issued a warning to politicians to refrain from mocking their opponents as the 2027 gubernatorial elections approach. He emphasized the importance of respect in political discourse, particularly towards Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, a member of the House of Representatives who has declared his intention to run for governor.

Akinyemi noted that past attempts by Isiaka to secure the governorship have led to ridicule, despite his experience and commitment to serving the people. He pointed out that derogatory language should be avoided, as it detracts from the political landscape.

The monarch referenced the political history of notable figures, including former President Muhammadu Buhari and Abraham Lincoln, to illustrate that past electoral failures do not define a politician's capabilities. Akinyemi called for unity and support for Isiaka, urging political stakeholders to focus on constructive dialogue rather than insults.
