Ogun Monarch Backs Iyabo Obasanjo's 2027 Bid

Oba Akintund Akinyemi of Iselu Kingdom in Yewa North Local Government Area, Ogun State, has publicly endorsed Iyabo Obasanjo's bid for the governorship in 2027. During a private visit to Obasanjo's palace, Akinyemi highlighted the need for increased inclusion of women in political leadership, referencing the historical achievements of women in Ogun State.

He praised notable figures such as Efunsetan Aniwura and Madam Efunroy Tinubu, and contemporary leaders like Chief Judge Mosunmola Dipeolu. Akinyemi commended Obasanjo's professional political trajectory, recalling her tenure as the Commissioner for Health in Ogun State and her philanthropic efforts through the Iyanuwura Foundation, which has significantly contributed to human capacity development.

He urged men to reassess their views on women's roles in politics, drawing parallels with global democratic practices where women hold top political offices. Akinyemi emphasized that women should not be barred from contesting for leadership positions, reinforcing the notion that their participation is crucial for the development of Ogun State and Nigeria.
