Wike Critiques PDP Defectors, Compares to Peter Obi

Nyesom Wike, a prominent figure in the People's Democratic Party (PDP), expressed strong criticism towards individuals who defected from the party, drawing a parallel to Peter Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election on the Labour Party platform. Wike argued that instead of aiding in the resolution of the PDP's internal crises, these defectors, including Obi, exhibited a lack of leadership qualities.

He pointed out that the Labour Party, which provided a platform for Obi during the crisis, failed to demonstrate effective leadership by not addressing the underlying issues. Wike's faction of the PDP proceeded with a national convention despite a Supreme Court ruling that nullified an appeal court decision regarding the Oyo state convention.

He also noted that the PDP has not produced a presidential candidate for the upcoming 2027 general elections and expressed support for Bola Tinubu's second term as president, highlighting his appointment as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
