Ministers Plan Resignation to Contest 2027 Elections

A report indicates that multiple ministers from President Bola Tinubu's cabinet are preparing to resign to contest for gubernatorial positions in their respective states in the 2027 elections. Among those mentioned are Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power, who is expected to resign soon to vie for the Oyo State governorship ticket under the Progressives Congress, aiming to unseat the incumbent governor, Seyi Makinde of the People's Democratic Party.

Muhammad Pate, Minister of Health, is also set to contest for the Bauchi State governorship, while Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs, is eyeing the same position in Bauchi. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha is reportedly planning to return to the National Assembly.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set party primaries for April 22, 2027, with a deadline for resignations to be finalized before the primaries. Femi Awogboro, another minister, has confirmed his intent to run for a state governorship seat, indicating a significant shift in the political landscape as these ministers prepare for their respective races.
