Tuggar Resigns as Foreign Affairs Minister for Bauchi Race

Yusuf Tuggar, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, has officially resigned from his position to enter the governorship race for Bauchi State in the 2027 elections. His resignation was confirmed on March 31, 2023, with a letter submitted to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Dr.

Abubakar Kana. In his resignation, Tuggar expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve the country and acknowledged the support he received from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the diplomatic community during his tenure.

He credited his time in office with advancing Nigeria's foreign policy, focusing on people-centered diplomacy, humanitarian efforts, and strengthening Nigeria's relationships with traditional partners, particularly in the Global South. Tuggar's initiatives included enhancing support for Nigerians abroad and improving bilateral relations, especially concerning the energy sector and the security of Nigerians detained in foreign countries.
