Umahi Urges Southeast Leaders to Support Tinubu's Bid

On Thursday, during the inauguration of a 15-kilometer section of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, David Umahi, the Minister of Works and Chairman of the Southeast Governors Forum, called on leaders from the Southeast geopolitical zone to support President Bola Tinubu's quest for a second term. Umahi highlighted the need for the region to back Tinubu's administration, citing ongoing federal government road projects aimed at improving infrastructure in Southeast Nigeria.

He noted that the region has historically faced challenges with road conditions, which have significantly impacted travel times, exemplified by the seven-hour journey from Enugu to Onitsha. Umahi criticized the slow progress of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, which has been stalled for eight years despite a contract worth 202 billion naira.

He urged that work must resume to enhance road quality and durability, emphasizing the critical role of infrastructure in regional development.
