UN Warns Nigerian Parties Against Hate Speech for 2027 Elections

The United Nations (UN) has cautioned political parties in Nigeria against hate speech ahead of the 2027 elections. At a roundtable on Ethical Politics in Abuja, organized by the National Human Rights Commission and the UN, Mr.

Mohamed Malick Fall stressed the importance of upholding democratic values and avoiding divisive rhetoric. The UN official warned against the dangers of hate speech spreading rapidly on digital platforms, threatening political stability and individual safety.

Emphasizing the need for accurate and reliable information, Mr. Fall urged political parties to lead by example and focus on respectful campaigning based on policy ideas rather than insults.
