Amaechi Blames Ambition for Opposition's Unity Issues

Rotimi Amaechi, the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stated that personal ambition among opposition leaders is hindering the formation of a united candidate for the 2027 presidential election. Speaking during a panel session at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) 2026 Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Monday, he noted that many politicians are unwilling to relinquish their ambitions despite calls for unity to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Amaechi remarked that if coalition-building were feasible, Vice President Atiku Abubakar would likely participate. He criticized politicians for prioritizing personal gain over national interest.

Additionally, Amaechi defended his tenure as Governor of Rivers State, emphasizing the visible projects completed during his administration. He urged Nigerians to evaluate candidates based on their performance rather than ethnic affiliations, asserting that the ADC offers a credible alternative for leadership.
