APC Chieftain Critiques Opposition Coalition for 2027

Umar D. Duhu, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), criticized the emerging opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing it as a fragile alliance driven by personal ambition rather than national interest.

A group of one hundred opposition figures, known as G-100, proposed a single presidential candidate for the elections. Duhu stated that the coalition's efforts are failing due to internal divisions and conflicting interests among key political figures.

He pointed out that the coalition, initially led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has begun to unravel, particularly after Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso exited the ADC in May, citing endless court cases and internal battles. Duhu remarked that analysts believe the agreement for a single candidate is on life support, resulting in a fractured opposition that may cannibalize its own votes.

He expressed skepticism about Atiku Abubakar's willingness to step down after multiple presidential bids and questioned Obi's commitment to the "Southern presidency" arrangement.
