PRP Chairman Explains Rejection of Obi, Kwankwaso's Requests

Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmad, the Chairman of the People's Redemption Party (PRP), addressed the rejection of requests from former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for the party's presidential ticket for the 2027 general elections.

During a Hausa political program on DITV in Kaduna, Baba-Ahmad stated that both politicians had approached the PRP for potential collaboration but were unable to join due to disagreements over conditions. He emphasized that the PRP could not guarantee a presidential ticket without facing internal opposition and insisted that both Obi and Kwankwaso must formally join the party before seeking electoral positions.

Baba-Ahmad also noted that the PRP's leadership recognized the political influence of both individuals but maintained adherence to the party's constitutional democratic processes. Additionally, he mentioned issues regarding the party's status with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which contributed to the breakdown of discussions.
