PRP Rejects Obi and Kwankwaso's Presidential Bids

Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the chairman of the People's Redemption Party (PRP), stated that the party rejected the bids of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and New Nigeria Peoples Party leader Rabiu Kwankwaso for the presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections. During a Hausa political program on DITV in Kaduna, Baba-Ahmed discussed the conditions under which the two politicians approached the PRP for possible collaboration.

He emphasized that both Obi and Kwankwaso were informed that they must formally join the PRP and adhere to its internal democratic processes before any discussions regarding the presidential ticket could occur. Baba-Ahmed noted that the request for the ticket without facing internal opposition was not feasible, as the party must maintain its rules and democratic integrity.

He also mentioned that the two politicians had requested significant positions within the party to support their candidacies, which the PRP leadership deemed inappropriate without following established procedures.
