Yiaga Africa Trains Students for 2027 Elections

Yiaga Africa organized a training program in Abuja on Thursday aimed at empowering student leaders from six geopolitical zones in Nigeria to promote democratic rights and active political participation ahead of the 2027 general elections. The event, supported by the Open Society Foundation, brought together 18 students from institutions including Modibo Adama University, Ignatius Ajuru University, Benue State University, University of Lagos, Imo State University, and Federal University Dutsin-Ma.

Olaniyan Sanusi, the program officer at Yiaga, emphasized the importance of equipping student leaders with essential leadership and management skills necessary for effective political engagement. Ibrahim Faruk, the program coordinator, highlighted the initiative as part of the "Not Young to Run" movement, which successfully reduced constitutional age requirements for contesting elections in Nigeria.

The training aims to inspire young people to take concrete actions in their communities and schools to enhance youth political participation in the upcoming elections.
