PDP Accuses INEC of Bias Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of institutional bias against the party, alleging that the electoral body is contributing to efforts aimed at weakening the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections. This allegation was made in a statement by the PDP's National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, on Saturday.

The PDP claims that INEC's refusal to recognize its Interim National Working Committee, despite formal notification following a Supreme Court judgment, is part of a broader strategy to diminish the party's influence. The PDP has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja to compel INEC to recognize its interim leadership but expressed dissatisfaction with the court's ruling, which it described as inconsistent with previous Supreme Court and Court of Appeal judgments.

The party has appealed this judgment, asserting that INEC's actions have raised concerns about its neutrality and have created an impression of institutional bias. The PDP remains confident that the Court of Appeal will clarify the legal issues surrounding the leadership dispute.
