Yobe Youths Demand North Zoning for Governorship Race

Youths in Yobe State are calling for the next governorship position to be zoned to the North, highlighting that the Yobe East zone has historically occupied the position, with the exception of a brief period after the death of Mamman Ali. Ibrahim Moham Abubakar, a leader in the youth group, noted that Yobe North has not produced a governor, deputy governor, or minister since the return to democracy in 1999.

The youths are rallying behind Engr Mustapha Yunusa Maihaja, who is urged to contest for the governorship seat. Abubakar described Maihaja as an experienced politician capable of driving development in the state, referencing his previous roles, including two governorship bids in 2007 and 2015, and his service as director of the campaign planning for Bola Ahmed Tinubu's presidential campaign in 2023.

The group insists that Maihaja's candidacy should reflect the collective will of the people of Nguru LGA, rather than individual aspirations.
