The Atiku Abubakar camp has issued a statement cautioning opposition political actors against adopting a sentiment-driven approach for the 2027 presidential election. The statement, released on Monday in Abuja and signed by Olusola Sanni, emphasizes the importance of strategy over emotion, particularly in the context of unseating the incumbent president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The camp argues that historical precedents show no incumbent president has ever been defeated by an opposition candidate, and they criticize the notion of a moral argument favoring a southern candidate as intellectually dishonest. The statement highlights that the South has held presidential power for approximately 18 years in the Fourth Republic, compared to 10 years for the North, making the argument for justice in zoning increasingly difficult to justify.
