Atiku Camp: Southern Candidate Can't Beat Tinubu in 2027

Atiku Abubakar's camp has declared that a southern opposition candidate cannot realistically unseat President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections. This statement was issued by Olusola Sanni, a media aide to Atiku, who cautioned opposition parties against limiting the presidential ticket to the south.

The camp argues that the political history of Nigeria shows no incumbent president has ever been defeated by an opposition challenger. They highlighted that the south has held presidential power for approximately 18 years during the Fourth Republic, compared to 10 years for the north, which has widened the existing political imbalance.

Sanni criticized the notion of a rotational justice principle that favors the south, stating that it should not be compromised for individual ambitions. He urged opposition parties to focus on building a broad national coalition capable of defeating the incumbent administration, emphasizing that achieving this goal requires a realistic and strategic approach rather than emotional appeals.
