GenU Nigeria Secretariat Launches to Empower 20 Million Youth

On Tuesday, the GenU Nigeria Secretariat was officially launched by Vice President Kashim Shettima in Abuja, aiming to connect 20 million Nigerian youths to education and skills by 2030. The initiative is part of a public-private youth partnership program led by UNICEF.

During the launch, Shettima highlighted the importance of aligning skills with industry demands and ensuring transparency in the process. Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, praised the initiative for its potential to stimulate local economies across 8,809 electoral wards in Nigeria.

The Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Sa Idu Ahmad, expressed support for the program, which will integrate vocational skill training into the Ministry's plans. UNICEF's representative in Nigeria, Wafaa Saeed Abdelatef, commended the government's commitment to youth welfare and pledged support for the initiative.

The program aims to reverse unemployment trends among Nigerian youth and will require collaboration from various ministries to ensure its success.
