GenU Nigeria Launches Secretariat to Empower Youth

On Tuesday, the GenU Nigeria secretariat was formally launched in Abuja by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who emphasized the initiative's goal to connect 20 million Nigerian youths to education, skills, and livelihood opportunities by 2030. The program is part of a public-private youth partnership (PPYP) led by UNICEF, designed to align skill demands with community and industry needs.

Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, highlighted the importance of the secretariat in accelerating program execution and deepening partnerships across various government agencies. Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, praised the initiative for its potential to stimulate local economies and pledged support from the federal government.

The initiative targets 8,809 electoral wards across Nigeria and aims to integrate vocational skill training into the Ministry of Education's plans. UNICEF representative Wafaa Saeed Abdelatef expressed gratitude for the federal government's endorsement of the program.
