220 Nigerians Study in UK Under Amnesty Programme

The Federal Government of Nigeria announced that 220 Nigerians are currently studying in the United Kingdom under the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP). Established in 2009, PAP aims to address militancy in the Niger Delta by disarming and rehabilitating former agitators.

The program has evolved to focus on skill training and educational empowerment, fostering peace and development in the oil-rich region. It provides scholarships for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies, covering full tuition fees, accommodation, and monthly allowances for books.

Beneficiaries can select from various Niger Delta states, including Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo, and Rivers. In the 2025 academic year, PAP sent 161 beneficiaries to pursue postgraduate studies in the UK, in addition to 34 foreign postgraduate scholarship beneficiaries deployed across various UK universities.

Denni Otuaro, the program's administrator, expressed commitment to expanding the scholarship scheme, particularly in critical fields such as data science, cybersecurity, energy, and law.
