220 Nigerians in UK Under Presidential Amnesty Programme

The Nigerian government, represented by Minister Mohammed Idri, disclosed that 220 Nigerians are currently pursuing academic programs in the United Kingdom under the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP). This announcement was made during a meeting with beneficiaries in the UK, coinciding with President Bola Tinubu's state visit.

The PAP, established in 2009 by late President Umaru Yar'Adua, aims to disarm and rehabilitate former militants in the Niger Delta, focusing on skill training and education to foster peace and development in the oil-rich region. Idri expressed satisfaction with the program's outcomes over nearly two decades, highlighting its positive impact on beneficiaries.

The current administration is committed to expanding opportunities for Nigerian youth, ensuring they have the right conditions to thrive and contribute meaningfully to national development. The Minister noted that the situation in the Niger Delta has significantly improved compared to the past, with positive changes resulting from the PAP's interventions.

Currently, there are about 8,000 students studying in Nigeria.
