Tinubu Appoints Tunji Disu as New Inspector General of Police

President Bola Tinubu has approved the replacement of Inspector General of Police Egbetokun with Assistant Inspector General Tunji Disu, effective immediately. Egbetokun, who was appointed in June 2023 for a four-year term set to conclude in June 2027, resigned due to family issues requiring his undivided attention.

The resignation was confirmed during a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Tinubu expressed appreciation for Egbetokun's service and acknowledged his dedication to strengthening internal security during his tenure.

Disu, born on April 13, 1966, in Lagos State, has a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master’s degree in Public Administration. He joined the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992, and has held various operational and administrative roles, building a reputation for his leadership and expertise.

The President will soon convene the Nigeria Police Council to formally consider Disu's appointment as Inspector General, which will be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation.
