Adebayo Calls for Probe into Warri-Itakpe Train Derailment

Prince Adewole Adebayo, a leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), expressed deep sorrow over the Warri-Itakpe train derailment near Agbor, Delta State, which left four people dead and several others injured. The train was carrying 482 passengers at the time of the incident.

Adebayo described the derailment as a painful national tragedy and demanded an immediate and transparent investigation to prevent future occurrences. He extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured passengers, who were evacuated to medical facilities in Agbor for treatment.

Adebayo emphasized that the incident should serve as a wake-up call for authorities regarding transport infrastructure and public safety. He insisted that sympathy alone is insufficient and urged the federal government and railway authorities to conduct a comprehensive independent inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the derailment.

Adebayo noted that the investigation should aim to identify whether the accident resulted from technical failure, poor maintenance, operational lapses, or weak oversight, advocating for concrete reforms to enhance railway safety across Nigeria.
