Adeleke's Osun Election Win: Key Factors Explained

Public affairs analyst Donald Okwuosa explained three major reasons behind Governor Ademola Adeleke's victory in the Osun gubernatorial election. First, Adeleke's decision to leave the PDP for Accord while remaining a sitting governor allowed him to maintain his political identity amidst internal party divisions.

Second, his administration's visible infrastructure projects in key areas such as Osogbo, Ilesha, Iwo, and Ede helped solidify voter loyalty. Third, the election's conduct, facilitated by INEC's use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and result transmission to the IReV portal, restored some public confidence.

Adeleke received 511,067 votes, defeating APC's Bola Oyebamiji, who garnered 444,815 votes. Okwuosa noted that Adeleke's victory disrupts APC's strategy in the Southwest and signals instability within the PDP.

He also highlighted the political implications for President Tinubu, particularly regarding his influence in the region and tensions with the Adeleke family.
