Adeleke Wins Osun Governorship Election by 66,252 Votes

Senator Ademola Adeleke won the Osun State governorship election held on August 15, 2026, securing 511,067 votes against Chief Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 444,815 votes, resulting in a margin of 66,252 votes. Dr Najeem Salam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished third with 17,180 votes.

This outcome has led to speculation that the ADC may have aligned with the Accord to prevent the APC from regaining control of the governorship. Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the ADC leader in Osun, expressed strong opposition to the APC's return to power.

Prior to the election, there were allegations of misconduct by the APC, including the arrest of Accord leaders and the freezing of a state bank account by the EFCC. Adeleke's victory is seen as significant in maintaining a competitive political landscape in Nigeria, where the APC currently dominates many states.
