Bonfrère Jo Disappointed Over Lack of Olympic Recognition

Johannes "Bonfrère" Jo, the former coach of Nigeria's Dream Team, has voiced his disappointment that 30 years after leading the team to its first and only Olympic football gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Games, he has not received any recognition or reward from the Nigerian government. Under his guidance, the team, featuring notable players such as Nwankwo Kanu and Austin Okocha, achieved a historic victory, defeating Brazil 4-3 in the semi-finals and Argentina 3-2 in the final.

While many players received national honors and rewards, Bonfrère feels forgotten. He revealed that his Olympic gold medal was stolen while in the custody of a team official, which remains a painful memory.

Despite his efforts to seek acknowledgment from the authorities, he has received little response. Bonfrère expressed hope that the government would eventually recognize his contributions to Nigeria's greatest Olympic football achievement.
