LASTMA Rescues 353 in Lagos Road Crashes This Year

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) disclosed that it rescued 353 victims from various road traffic accidents between January and May 2026. The agency's General Manager, Olalekan Bakar Oki, stated that the rescued individuals included 207 adult males, 137 adult females, and nine male children.

LASTMA's emergency response unit was highlighted for its commitment to preserving lives through prompt interventions. Oki urged motorists, commercial transport operators, and motorcyclists to exercise greater caution as rainfall intensifies, noting that the rainy season often leads to increased road crash risks due to poor visibility, slippery surfaces, and mechanical failures.

He advised drivers to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, maintain safe distances, and ensure their vehicles are in good condition, especially during adverse weather conditions. Oki also cautioned against driving through flooded areas without assessing the depth, as this could lead to accidents and vehicle breakdowns.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to improving emergency response services under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's administration.
