Nigerian Women Advocacy Groups Criticize Low Female Representation in APC Convention Committee

Nigerian women advocacy groups, including the Women in Politics Forum (WIPF), have expressed dissatisfaction with the 4.11% representation of women in the APC Convention Committee, emphasizing that it falls below the 35% gender representation benchmark. Eber Ifendu, the founder of WIPF, called for urgent action, urging the passage of a gender bill to address the issue.

Dr. Amina Obmeri from the Safe Point Care Initiative also raised concerns about the exclusion of women in political structures, warning that it weakens democracy.

The groups are intensifying their advocacy for gender inclusivity and are monitoring political party activities ahead of the 2027 general elections to ensure increased female representation.
