El-Rufai Detained in ₦432 Billion Corruption Probe

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as part of an investigation into alleged corruption involving ₦432 billion. He arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Monday, October 10, 2023, in response to an invitation related to the probe.

U. Mustapha, El-Rufai's lawyer, confirmed that his client is cooperating fully with the investigation but declined to comment on specific allegations.

The EFCC is reportedly considering seeking a remand order to extend El-Rufai's detention beyond the statutory period. The investigation stems from a report by an ad hoc committee of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, which claims that El-Rufai's administration obtained loans that were not utilized for their intended purposes.

The committee, chaired by Henri Zacharia, has recommended further investigation and potential prosecution of El-Rufai and former cabinet members for alleged abuse of office and mismanagement of public funds.
